| [Home] The German
Civil War is a conflict between the German Democratic Republic
and German Federal Republic. The war would become the direct
cause of the Y2K War after the Soviet Union demanded all NATO led
forces left Saxony (the demand being refused.) The war up to the point global intervention
and eventual global war broke out is summarised here.
| The German Civil War began in 1989 due
to a few events that had taken place previously. This includes: In 1988, as a group of
West German protesters attacked the Berlin Wall. East German forces responded by open
firing on the protesters as well as the crowd behind them. Across January 1989, West
German forces claimed since the fall of the Berlin Wall that East German forces had
changed the border to take parts of Berlin that were previously part of the West. In May
1989, West German planes were tracked flying over East German airspace. The aircrafts
refused to identify themselves and as such were shot down by East German anti-air. In
August 1989 West German funded groups attempted a coup against East Germany. This
attempted coup would be the last straw, as the group's facility was raided. The facility
was within the West German section of Berlin. East German forces would hold out, and West
German forces would respond by firing at said forces. Border guards began fighting and all
out war began shortly after. The declaration came the day after by East Germany, although
unlike Article 5 states, NATO chose not to intervene directly just yet as the conflict was
caused by 'mutual aggression'. The conflict would mostly stalemate until 1994, where East
German forces entered West Berlin. The city was quickly taken due to being surrounded. As
the region was integrated across 1994-1999, NATO made a move to attack East Germany to
prevent the final moves of Berlin's unity into the East. Saxony fell to NATO forces within
a few months, and the Soviet Union demanded the immediate withdrawal from Saxony. The US
refused, and the rest of NATO followed. The Y2K war began in August 1999. |
