Year 2000 War / Y2K War

Y2KW ONLINE - An alternate scenario where world war 3 starts in 1999
[Home]

The Y2K war is a group of multiple conflicts across the globe, most originating from 1999 and eventually all out war starting as 1999 went on. The most major of the subconflicts being:

The German Civil War would lead to the most major of the conflicts, as NATO and the Warsaw Pact would begin fighting in addition to the German fighting.

In 1999, NATO forces moved to secure Saxony, a major industrial state to the German Democratic Republic. This came as NATO began their intervention in Germany, following the East German takeover of Berlin 5 years prior and slow integration of a united Berlin into the state. This threatened the power balance in Europe, and as such, the Warsaw Pact demanded all NATO associated forces to retreat from Saxony for any diplomatic communications to continue. This would escalate into an ultimatum where Soviet forces would intervene to take back Saxony. The United States and all other NATO members would refuse, and fighting began as the Warsaw Pact began fighting to take back Saxony. The United States would declare it an act of war, and the Soviet Union would respond by issuing a formal declaration of war. Around the same time, China began its invasion of Taiwan. This led to Japan annexing Taiwan to prevent China from making further moves into Taiwan, while China began intervening in the Korean War by attacking North Korea. Japan refused to back out of North Korea, while South Korea chose to uphold the former DMZ. These conflicts would start the war, with the Y2K War officially starting August 1999.

The Battle of New York would take place in September as a set of Soviet air distractions worked against air defence systems monitoring the United States, leading to Soviet fighter jets sneaking out of view to the air defence and only being discovered once hundreds of Soviet fighters were above New York. The American air force was deployed in response, leading to fighting between each air force. As planes were shot down, multiple buildings (most notably the World Trade Centre complex) would be partially or completely destroyed. Some structures, such as the Twin Towers, would be upheld as construction work was done to introduce temporary structures in which stopped the complete collapse of the higher floors into the lower floors. The battle ended as Soviet fighters left the scene, with 10 of the 250 that entered new york being shot down, while approx. 20 American fighters were shot down out of the 50 that arrived to counter the Soviet attack. Since then, Martial Law has been declared. The army has a constant guard over New York, with Central Park having temporary anti-air mechanisms set up to defend the park's history.

The Battle of Volnyrsk would become one of the longest lasting battles of any in the war. The island, being in the pacific to the north nearby that of America's Alaska and Soviet Vladvistok, became a target to the US due to its proximity to the Soviet Union and its ownership by the Soviet Union. The battle would eventually become a global NATO target, with all NATO members participating in the landing. The battle began in January 2000 and, as the month ends, is still ongoing.
